PRACTICAL

Blending Mode Exercise

Mr. Martin introduced us the blending modes on Photoshop and we were instructed to do the exercises in the class.

EXERCISE #1
We need to merge the photo of steam with the photo of girl holding a cup of coffee.

Fig 1.1: Photo given

We were asked to use 'Multiply' blending mode to blend it and soften the overall photo by adding white readial gradient to it.

Result:

EXERCISE #2
We were taught to apply the 'Multiply' blending mode on the final work (Hearst Mansion) that we've done previously.

Fig 2.1: Hearst Mansion photo

For this picture, we were asked to use Gradient tool and 'Multiply' blending mode to make the light source brighter.

EXERCISE #3
We were asked to put the picture of a flock of birds from another photo into another picture of seaside.

Fig 3.1: Photo given

Then, we were told to use 'Screen' blending mode to blend them. To remove the blue sky that merged with the flock of birds, we need to use 'Level' to brighten the overall picture, then create Clipping mask. Finally, we added radial gradient and applied  'Multiply' blending mode like vignette effect.

EXERCISE #4
For this picture, we were told to add a vignette effect.

Fig 4.1: Photo given

We were taught to create radial gradient and use 'Screen' blending mode to add a vignette effect to the picture.

EXERCISE #5
We were taught to use the final work (Hearst Mansion) that we've done previously and apply the 'Softlight' blending mode to make the dark side be darker and the bright side be brigter.

LECTURE

INTRO TO PHOTOSHOP 2

Blending Mode & Double Exposure
Mr. Fauzi explained the blending modes and double exposure effects to us. Blending modes are to blend the layers. Double exposure is a combination of 2 exposures in 1 image to produce evocative results. (Merging multiple images to make them surreal, emotional, humorous)

Then, we were tasked to choose 3 Double Exposure effects we like and explain why.

1. USING THE TILT - SHIFT EFEERCT
I like this effect that makes the photo looks aesthetically pleasing.

2. WORK WITH SILHOUTTE
What I like about this effect is it brings a story-telling or emotion feeling behind.

3. USE SHADOW
I like this effect because the photo becomes meaningful with the effect.

TUTORIAL

TASK:
We were tasked to make collage design on Photoshop with the images given by Mr. Fauzi. Moreover, we were recommended to play around with blending modes in creating the work.

Shown below are the 3 Compositions work I've done:

COMPOSITION #1
The first idea when I first looked at the projector was it projects several images. Thus, I tried to place different images given as projections. Then, I tried to place different images in the composition and played around with the blending modes.

COMPOSITION #2
The second, I figured that the television can do something like the projector does, so I tried to make another images as projection that came from the television. I felt the background was quite empty, so I put the gold fish, leaves, and textures and then utilized the blending modes.

COMPOSITION #3
For the third composition, I've decided to try masking out the objects in those photos given, and placed them into a composition. I changed the object bottom to black and white while remaining colour of other objects.
