REFLECTION
Experience
Frankly, I think I learned more things in Advanced Typography class than in Typography class in the previous semester. Specifically, the typographic systems are very useful when it comes to design a proper typography kind of works, namely, book content, poster, and so on. I genuinely love this module, Advanced Typography than Typography as it gives me creative liberty to decide the design of the work for Task 2A & 2B, and Task 3, unlike Typography's tasks which consist of rules and limitations. In fact, this semester was quite painful for me as there were so many assignments of different modules that were assigned at the same period of time and their deadline fell on almost the same week. I felt stressed out and overwhelmed to keep myself together, forcing myself to readjust and work harder on my time management. Thankfully I am toughing this out, and I am content with the works that I have produced in this module.
Observation
I observed my improvement in terms of what I have done in this module and the judgment I could make on a particular piece of Typography work. Although I still am not confident with my typography sense and skill, at least I can see the improvement as compared to the works I have done in Typography class before. Feedback-wise, I've noticed that Mr. Vinod had a peer feedback session instead of himself giving the feedback. I understand that he wanted us to be more critical and dependent on our own perceptive and sense in analyzing our and others' work, which I think it's a good approach but sometimes it makes me doubt if the feedback given by peers is correct and if the feedback I gave for others is right. That is rather confusing for me to define the possible error and constrains me from improving my sense and work. Luckily. Mr. Vinod changed it, he gave us feedback, and review our work by himself instead in the subsequent class.
Findings
I found that doing more research and study about a particular concept of certain work beforehand is better than jumping straight into work. However, it's important not to influenced so much by or overly depending on the ideas presented on online platforms such as Pinterest. I am quite worried if I would go astray from my own creativity and thoughts while I'm being influenced by other people's work. I would like my work to have my essence, and I'm glad that I did not reference much on Pinterest's ideas. Instead, in Task 2A and 2B, and also Task 3, I tried to understand the concept and context of the idea that I wanted to create and is suitable for the topic. I would say Task 2A & 2B, and Task 3 certainly help me a lot in encouraging me to think of ideas independently and actively. I am happy I've gone through these tasks and feel grateful to have these exercises in this module.
