ASSIGNMENT 3: Journal Article Publication

We were required to adapt our finalized dissertation into a concise paper suitable for publication, adhering to The Design School KREATE journal's requirements (with the templates given). 


In this article assignment, we were advised to decide and discuss only one research question that we have addressed in our final dissertation. Also, the words count for each section, font choice, font size, line spacing, etc. have already been set in the templates given by KREATE.

PROGRESS (Week 12 - Week 15)

For this journal article, I've made my decision to focus on the tangible elements in building the 'Kawaii' character design. As this objective was effectively handled in my conducted research dissertation, I feel more confident in highlighting and explaining it in this article assignment.

Feedback received from Dr. Hayati (Week 13, 14):
- Dr. Hayati mentioned that the Journal Article's title ("tangible elements") might need to be revised. She then said she will let me know again about the suitable title for my article.
- Dr. Hayati also commented:
  • reviewing from the Abstract, you are on the right track, please further proceed with it.
  • "has been adopted" can be used to replace "was executed" in the methodology section.
  • change the word in the methodology section: "global feedback".
  • "In doing so" sounds colloquialism, please replace it with formal words.
  • add "in the questionnaire" in the first sentence of the second paragraph in the methodology sections.
  • add a citation to the framework mentioned in the Methodology section.
  • "In sum" sounds colloquialism too, need to replace it with formal words.
  • replace the word "overall" with "as a conclusion to visual design".
  • need to further elaborate the "in several ways" that is stated in the conclusion section.
  • picture credits should adhere to APA format (with spacing in front of the second phrase)

FINAL SUBMISSION

After receiving the feedback given, I revised the work. In week 15, I personally consulted with Dr. Hayati via Telegram about the title use, she recommended me to use the same one, "tangible elements" and that I should decide by myself whether the title is understandable to the reader.

REFLECTION

It's good to know that I was on the right track, and glad to have specific and clear feedback given in this assignment. This gave me more confidence to get this work done. In comparison to the prior projects, such as the Draft Dissertation and Visual Design Publication, this assignment was easier and took lesser time. I actually finished this earlier than the Visual Design assignment, and I felt a bit relieved because I was almost complete with one module's assignments, which means I can devote more attention to my other modules' projects. 

Overall, I am grateful for taking this module as it certainly helped me improve my writing and comprehension skills, as well as gain new knowledge on creating appealing character design, and develop enhancement in graphic design skills.
