DESIGN EXPLORATION

WEEK 1 // 29.03.2022

We were given a brief about this module and its assignments. In this ongoing project, we need to create an innovative vision of the SDGs expectations shaped by current design trends and emerging creative technology. Also, we were advised to consider producing content with a human-centered design intended for non and digital thinkers, to promote one of these objectives with the intention of raising awareness, educating audiences, and inspiring action.

It was advised that we get started by researching an area of interest and identifying our audience. The next step is to decide on an output that can enable a seamless connection and conversation between the person and the goal.

Feedback
  • Ms. Anis commented the idea of designing a children's illustration book to educate kids on climate change issues is good.
  • She suggested I make the book a bigger size that enables kids to immerse themselves in the illustration world.
  • She reminded me that the illustration style can be adorable, but meanwhile, have to be gloomy in order to give off a serious mood about this topic.

PROPOSAL (FINAL DECISION) // COMPULSORY PROGRESSION CHECK

I have made amendments to my storyboard as the previous story was not to my satisfaction. Below is my latest proposal.

When I proposed it, I also presented my latest progression on my finished illustrations.

Feedback
  • Ms. Anis advised that I should highlight the objective of only informing the children. I was having trouble figuring out how to end my story. Thus, this realized me reallocate my story's purpose while maintaining an open ending that leaves the issue and resolution to the audience's perception.
  • Pg 6: The earth might not just be a rock. For instance, a little portion of greenery remains as the earth with the cities rises.
  • Pg 9,10: It is suggested that the Humans be modified into black silhouettes in order to boost imagination.
  • Pg 11: Look like textbook content. The graphics could be a crowded city with traffic and pollution.
  • Pg12: It didn't appear as though polar bears were in a severe scenario. Even though the painting is cute, it must be melancholy to emphasize the serious problem.

REFLECTION

In just 14 weeks, I was able to live the life of a children's book illustrator and author because I spent quite an abundance of time learning how to design a decent children's picture book and deciding how to deliver the tale in a way that is kid-friendly. Following my explorations of children's books, I would say that this project taught me a great deal about illustrating style, layout, colour application, world design, story planning, and context drawing.
