FINAL PROJECT: Animated Infographics
WEEK 1 // 05.01.2021 - 08.01.2021
The topic that my group and I (Group 5) have decided was Disinformation about Fake Cures of Covid-19. As we have noticed this issue has become more and more rampant, we intended to educate the viewers about this current issue. We started to do research and study about the topic, and then prepared a proposal for it.

WEEK 2 // 12.01.2021 - 15.01.2021
However, after watching other groups' presentation in the class, I think the topic (Fake Cures) that we've chosen seems to be difficult due to it involves big amounts of research, data and time-consuming later on. I started to change my mind to pick other topic that is more interesting. After a couple hours of research and thinking, I've opted for the topic (Milk is bad for bones) and it later was agreed by my groupmates.

For the storyboard, we have confirmed the main content for each Acts.
Fig 3.1: Draft_Narrative (Acts) (17/01/2021)
Then, we decided to assign the Acts seperately for each of us. After some discussion, we added one more Act, making it to 5 Acts.
ACT 1: Introduction
ACT 2: Milk is bad for bones
ACT 3: Reason why people believe milk is good (has the myth)
ACT 4: Why is this topic important?
ACT 5: Milk Alternatives
Cai Jun and I were going to work on storyboard of each Act 1 and 2, Qing Yee and Xing Tong were going to do the Act 3 and Act 4 respectively while Min Yuk was doing the Act 5.
After assigning the task, we discussed and picked the colour scheme, graphic style, and typeface for the animation.
Storyboard & Moodboard:
Fig 3.2: Storyboard & Moodboard_Slides (22/01/2021)
The feedback we got from Mr. Shamsul is some details in the storyboard are incomplete and ambiguous, he also afraid that the duration of stories might be longer than the requirement. Thus, the concern of us would be the inconsistency of the drawing style and unclear details of the narrative without exceed the limited duration. As such, I've decided to in charge of finalising all the storyboard in order to keep the story-telling and drawing style consistent. Moreover, we had a few discussion and decided to resplit ourselves into different roles.
ROLES:
Man Ling: Narractor, Script writter, Animator for Animatics.

WEEK 5 // 02.02.2021 - 05.02.2021
After the animatics was approved, Qing Yee did the illustration of assets and Min Yuk offered her help on illustrating assests of Act 5.
Fig 6.1: Draft 1_Assets
But, the graphic style of the assets done by Qing Yee didn't turned out as our expectation (vector style) as it was too rough. Mr. Shamsul also gave us some advises on that. Hence, we had a discussion with Qing Yee to walk through our expectation and suggested her some methods in illustrating the visual style. In order to reduce her burden, Min Yuk and I helped her out on doing Act 3 and Act 4 respectively.
01_Task of Illustration:
Qing Yee - Act 2
Man Ling - Act 4
Min Yuk - Act 3 & Act 5

Things still didn't turned out as we expected in terms of the graphic style and colour used. By then, due to the limitation of time, I chose to take over the Act 2 and redesigned them, and found a better typeface for the animation, which is Milky Nice Font.
02_Task of Illustration:
Man Ling - Act 2 & 4 (Act 1 is handled by Animator)
Min Yuk - Act 3 & Act 5

FEEDBACK
Week 2 // Proposal
Mr. Shamsul suggested us to find more statistics or narrow down the topic (Disinformation of Fake Cures of Covid-19) since the topic covers many contents such as fake cures from local or other countries.
Week 3 // Proposal, Narrative & Storyboard
Mr. Shamsul said our idea of topic was good and can further proceed it.
Mr. Shamsul commented that some details in the storyboard were incomplete and obscure, the length of stories might exceed the requirement.
Week 4 // Animatics
Mr. Shamsul suggested that to add label and title for some scenes, and asked us to ensure all the graphic style is consistent.
Week 5 // Assets
Mr. Shamsul commented that the illustration was rough, the graphic style might need to be amended.
REFLECTION
Experience:
To be honest, it was a challenge for me to work as a group as I prefer to decide and proceed what I want without discussion with others. However, my teammates and I tried our best to deliver our idea and develop a shared understanding.
Observation:
In my opinion, the obstacle that we faced in doing the project is when we distributing the task, especially the illustrating part. This is because we all have our own illustration style but the graphic style in the animation video should be consistent. Hence, we decided to choose vector style. However, somehow the result done by teammate wasn't fit to the expectation that we discussed. In this case, a good communication plays a vital role and I think Min Yuk did a very good job. Most of the members were doing their part great, especially Min Yuk who always being active with me in sharing thoughts, ideas, and concerns in the group and were willing to offer her help for others.
Findings:
Working in a group indeed taught me a lot, I've learned to share and negotiate my idea, organize the information, communicate better, be initiative and collaborate with people effectively. Most importantly, I learned to trust my teammates in completing the tasks. Overall, It's quite a good learning experience for me.
