FURTHER READING:
PROGRESS (Week 1- Week 7, Week 15)
I started off my first draft section by section weekly by following the instructions of the above materials.
Draft Dissertation 1
Fig 1: Draft Dissertation 1
Feedback received from Dr. Hayati (Week 3):
- Dr. Hayati likes the idea of the way I made full use of both integrated and parenthetical in-text citations.
- The writing seems fine, namely, the sentences aren’t too long and draggy, the connection is ensured in the sentences.
- Try not to use “by”, “with”, “for” “based on” at the beginning of the sentences as it sounds less formal.
- The figure number should follow the section number.
- 2 or more works by the same author in the same year: needed to use lower-case letters (a,b,c) with the year to order the entries in the reference list and in-text citation.
- Citing indirect sources: use “as cited in”.
Draft Dissertation 2
After receiving the above feedback given, I improvised it in another new doc (Draft Dissertation 2).
Fig 2: Draft Dissertation 2
Feedback received (Week 4):
- The issues part should be written in Section 3: Research Methodology instead. Meanwhile, section 4 should only present the results and analysis of it.
- Can include conclusions in section 4.
- Remember to state clearly the details are reflected in the Appendix.
- Remember to state the “figure” caption below each image and also mention it in the text.
Feedback received (Week 5):
- A statement about details in the Appendix should be added too in Section 3.
- Issues faced in the questionnaire instrument should be mentioned in Section 3’s limitation instead, not in Section 4’s analysis.
- A change in the title of Section 4 is advised, such as “4.1 Questionnaire Survey” has to be altered to Finding from Quantitative Method: Questionnaire Survey”.
- Some data in Section 4 lack interpretation (content should be analyzed).
- Make sure the interpretation in Visual Analysis is not biased.
- A refinement should be made on the description in Section 5.
Draft Dissertation 3
Below is my work in progress draft that has been improvised based on the above feedback.
Fig 3: Draft Dissertation 3
- It is advisable to review as a reader the dissertation after doing all the writing.
- Make sure both research questions and objectives are stated (not just research questions) in Section 5.
- Can add a figure of Lorenz’s Baby Schema in Section 5 for a better reading experience.
- To relate the paragraphs, one sentence should be added to describe it.
- Change “relate back” to more formal words.
- Make sure the foreign word ‘Kawaii’ is consistent with the same word ‘Kawaii’ throughout the writing.
❗ Mistake:
I made a mistake for not improvising the errors in another new doc (thus, unable to show the changes, especially the part of the Research Problem and Problem Statement )
Feedback received (Week 7):
- Make sure there’s an appendix highlighted in the related section (results and analysis and discussion, ) so that the readers know where to track the details.
- Remember to add page number:
- Roman number for pages before Introduction
- Numerical number for: pages from Introduction
- No need to state “Diagram” behind Section 1.4 title
- Don’t remove Section Problem Statement.
- Research problem: a brief statement
- Problem Statement: elaboration on the research gap
- Title should be capital letters for all the first words.
- Hypothesis should be highlighted in Section 5 so that the readers know the hypothesis will be covered in the following subsections.
Draft Dissertation 4
Hence, I refined again the Introduction, redid the Problem Statement as I was advised not to remove it, structured the Conceptual Framework, constructed the Reference list, added Appendices, altered the Title, and included page numbers.
Below is my first submission of the draft dissertation after refining it based on the above feedback.

WEEK 15 // 30.11.2021
I received the Black & White feedback (written feedback) given by Dr. Hayati after personally requesting it. The details that I need to refine were provided clearly in the PDF.
Black & White Written Feedback:

FINAL WORK:
Draft Dissertation 5
Hence, I've decided to improvise my draft dissertation based on the feedback given. Below is the final submission of this assignment (draft dissertation).

FEEDBACK
DRAFT DISSERTATION 1-3
*Details of feedbacks have been mentioned in the content.WEEK 15 // DRAFT DISSERTATION 4
In my written comments, Dr. Hayati mentioned that I have the tendency of constructing long sentences that may divert the reader's attention away from the main point. Despite this, she complimented me on my ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of this research.
REFLECTION
WEEK 1 // Literature Review Matrix, Identify Theme
I had bad feelings about the tasks I'll be doing soon at first since they appeared to be difficult. I did not begin working on the tasks this week as I have a bad habit of procrastinating on things that I find challenging or confusing. I really need to get rid of this bad habit :<
WEEK 2 // Section 2: Literature Review
My brain cells have died a lot, especially when I tried to link all the secondary studies that I have reviewed to construct the Literature Review section. I kept ruminating about how to connect all of the secondary research for the Literature Review so that they are coherent in this dissertation. I'm struggling in the process but luckily the output is satisfactory.
WEEK 3 // Section 3: Research Methodology
In my opinion, the process of structuring the Methodology is easier than the Literature Review. Other than that, little did I know that some phrases such as "On top of that" are deemed to be a colloquialism. I learned this after being told by Dr. Hayati.
WEEK 4 // Section 4: Results (Findings)
I gained a better understanding of structuring the descriptive analysis during the process of interpreting and stating the results.
WEEK 5 // Section 5: Discussion
There's some struggle in constructing this Discussion section as it needs to be further analyzed and explain the results and justify how the results have or have not answered the research objectives. Fortunately, I managed to complete it after studying the tutorial given on the online source, Scribbr.
WEEK 6 // Section 6: Conclusion, Acknowledgement, & Introduction refinement
I attempted to avoid just rephrasing the results in my Conclusion section because reading the same thing as the Finding and Discussion sections would be highly boring for the readers.
WEEK 7 // Conceptual Framework, Reference List, Appendices, Table of Content
At the beginning of structuring the conceptual framework, I felt lost and had no idea how to start it. Then, I tried to find the tutorial online in the hopes of gaining a better picture of it. I was grateful that I able to come up with the framework with the help of this YouTube video (How to Develop a Conceptual Framework- Scribbr). However, I wasn't sure if that was correct.
WEEK 15 // Refinement based on Black & White Written Feedback
I felt so satisfied that the draft dissertation has been finalized successfully! Through this assignment, I realized that I still have space for improvement in my writing skill, especially my tendency of writing extended phrases which would potentially draw the reader's attention away from the essential point.
