PRACTICAL

Although there's no class for this week due to National Day (Public Holiday), Mr. Martin instructed us to did exercise for masking out Shazam and put it into another photo (Hearst Mansion) by using Photoshop.

HEARST MANSION EXERCISE
In our first class, the first practical was to put seperate images into one. We were introduced to some basic tools of Photoshop, namely, Quick selection tool, Pen tool, Layers, Free Transform, Colour Match, and Masks.

STEP 1: Masking out Shazam
I used the Quick Selection tool to crop out the Shazam from the poster and pasted it into the Hearst Mansion. Then, I Free transform the Shazam (reduce size), and renamed each layers.

STEP 2: Adjusting Colour & Light
To make it more believable, I used Match Color (under "Adjustment" in "Shazam" layer ) to modify the lighting and colours.
  • Luminance: how bright you want image to be
  • Color Intensity: Stronger/ Lighter colour
  • Fade: How much you want it to blend

STEP 3: Adding Shadows
Thirdly, I added a new layer, and used Brush to draw shadow behind the Shazam. Next, I reduced a bit of the Opacity. Then, I applied Gaussian Blur effect on the shadow.

STEP 4: Adding Reflection and Final Touches
I duplicated the "Shazam" layer and named it as "Reflection". After that, I put it exact vertical upside down of the Shazam then changed Height to -100%. Then, to remove its leg, I masked it out by using pen tool to square the reflection, then clicked "Paths", selected "Work Path", clicked the third icon at the bottom, back to Layer to choose the third icon at the bottom and clicked 'Apply Mask'.

Finally, for the final touches, I added Gaussian Blur to the Shazam's reflection and adjusted its Hue/Saturation under "Adjustment" of "Image".
