PROJECT 1 (Exercise 1): Audio Dubbing Exercise

WEEK 3 // 15.04.2021
For this exercise, we need to download the muted clip provided in Google Classroom to be added sound by ourselves afterward. The dialogue sheet was provided and we were suggested to find all the ambient sounds / sound effects in https://freesound.org/, and all the dialogue can be recorded with our phone.

First off, I recorded all the dialogue one line by one line with my phone after I've downloaded the muted clip, and found all the ambient sounds and sounds effects.

I identified the visual elements that need sound and edited the clip in Adobe Premium Pro. After all the sounds are added and edited, I adjusted their volume to make the video sounds real.

In order to separate both the sounds of the cat and Joe, I used the feature in Adobe Audition (Effects - Time & Pitch - Pitch Shifter) to alter the sound to higher or deeper.

WEEK 13 // 24.06.2021
After getting the feedback from Mr. Martin, I made some changes to it. I adjusted the time of the cat voice coming in, the time of the leaves coming in, the time of the cat meowing, turned the voice of the man deeper by using Adobe Audition, as well as added "crossfade" for each audio.

WEEK 13 // 24.06.2021
After receiving feedback from Mr. Martin, I have made changes to the audios (Big Stadium, Toilet, Underground cave). For instance, I reduced the reverb for Big Stadium, mainly "Decay Time" and "Wet". Also, I increased the reverb for Underground cave. Lastly, I reduced the reverb for Toilet and adjusting its Parametric Equalizer.

PROJECT 1 (Exercise 3): Sound Design

WEEK 12 // 17.06.2021

Fig 3.1: Lecture_Sound Design (Brief for Exercise 3)

We were tasked to design 3 sounds by layering and using features in Adobe Audition: Magnification explosion, Triple punches, Monster of Alien voice.

ATTEMPT #1:

1. Manification Explosion

2. Triple Punches

PROGRESS
As I was not satisfied with the outcomes, I experimented several times again in Adobe Audition.

*Main effects applied can be seen in the left bar of Adobe Audition*

FEEDBACK

WEEK 4 // 22.04.2021

Specific Feedback:
Exercise 1 (Audio Dubbing)
Mr. Martin liked my work and gave some good comments on that. He also suggested inserting a light traffic background sound in the video in order to make the video more interesting.

WEEK 13 // 24.06.2021

Specific Feedback:
Exercise 1 (Audio Dubbing)
- Cat's first line is too early. Slightly push it to 1/2 sec (or less) later.
- Leaves whirling sound effect come in a bit early. Make it start at 33 secs while he is looking up.

Exercise 2 (Audio Shaping)
- Stadium & Cave are too similar. Slightly cut down reverb for Stadium, and increase for Cave.
- Toilet's reverb is too strong, sounds like a space that is as big as a classroom.

WEEK 14 // 01.07.2021

General Feedback:
Remember to apply "Crossfade" audio transition to each audio clip in your video.

REFLECTION

WEEK 4 // Audio Dubbing
I have learned a bunch of new knowledge in doing this task, it was fun! I learned to do the voice-over, change the voice to make it sounds like a cat by adjusting pitch in Adobe Audition, which I never used before. Also, I learned to sync every sound in the video by observing carefully everything that happened in the video, this indeed improves my observation of the details. Overall, I enjoyed doing this exercise.

WEEK 9 // Audio Shaping
This audio shaping exercise is pretty fun! By adjusting the audio's EQ can achieve different sound effects! I'm happy that I learned something new about Adobe Audition.

WEEK 13 // Exercise 1-3
The devil is in the details. Through both of these exercises, I realized it really took more time and effort to complete the video than expected, from editing the video, syncing the dialogue, to designing and deciding a suitable sound and ambiance. All of these play a part and parcel role in ensuring the quality of a video.
