FINAL PROJECT: Abstract Motion
The idea of the final project is to produce a 30-60 sec abstract motion graphic video with a strong topic that is theme-based and has good visuals, whether they be in 3D, 2D, mixed media, or any other experimental form. Some amazing senior works were shown by Mr. Fauzi:
IDEATION
I was struck by it after seeing the awesome work that my senior, Jennifer Tan, had created.
Thus, my first thought was to create a motion graphic video that, like hers, had motivational quotes from an old movie.
Below is the video that I planned to take as my footage:
However, I didn't feel certain about this because I had almost no thoughts about it.
Fig 1: Pinterest inspiration
Thankfully, spooky images showed in my recommendations as I looked through Pinterest in search of inspiration. At that moment, I suddenly had an idea. I've always found that eerie visuals and illustrations (not the terribly horrible ones) have an odd attractiveness. I, therefore, made the decision to use collage as my medium and create a haunting motion video.

Feedback
Mr. Fauzi remarked that it looks great and that he liked the overall aesthetic. He also mentioned that I have more room to create experimental works with this "Nightmare" concept. This boosted my confidence to explore this concept further.
PROGRESS
Collecting Assets
Actually, the process is enjoyable as I discovered some unexpected ideas when going through and gathering the assets. Since I want to play with all those materials when creating the compositions, I also saved several images that I felt I might use.

Compositions
I've chosen to create 11 compositions based on the rhythms in the songs I found.

In Photoshop, the images underwent extensive digital alteration, including the application of levels, filters, visual effects (noises), blending modes, and colour tweaks.

Animation
Music
Ave Satanas by Rotgod was the final song I decided to use since it was a dark song that complemented the eerie atmosphere I was going for in my video.
Planning
To better understand the timing and what needed to be animated, I arranged all of the compositions and the selected music in Premiere Pro before beginning to work in After Effect. In this way, I now have a general idea of what the end outcome will look like.
After Effect

Premiere Pro
After all the compositions were animated separately, I compiled them and added sound and visual effects to them in Premiere Pro.

Amendment:
ATTEMPT #1
At first, I tried to create the final scene as a still image, and I gave the typography a blocky appearance.
Fig 9: Attempt 1
My initial intention is to depict the last scene as waking up from a nightmare. After seeing the final outcome multiple times, I believe it would look better to use a rather creepy typeface and have it jiggle to evoke a quaking sensation.
Below is my final attempt:
